Food and Beverage Industry Cleaning Portland Oregon

If you own or manage a restaurant, cafeteria, bakery or food processing business in Oregon, you need to watch this video.

Portable soda blasting is an amazing way to clean your commercial kitchen. Get rid of grease, food, oils, butter that gets everywhere over time.

Soda blasting can be used for a deep clean of your walls and floors too.

Epoxy Flooring for Commercial Kitchens

We specialize in commercial painting and epoxy coatings in the food and beverage industry. The best floor system is an epoxy system that will withstand the heat from ovens and cold from refrigeration. Plus it will withstand the extreme heat and pressure from hot water cleaning.

If you’re just getting ready to design and build a new commercial kitchen, consider installing our cove base system around all perimeter walls. We can apply epoxy right up to the top edge of cove molding. This creates flooring that is totally seamless. This avoids any chance of water, grease or bacteria to build up where walls meet floors.

Best Marine Paint for 100 Ft. Tugboat in Portland Oregon

Tugboat Floor Gets Marine Paint Epoxy System

Epoxy, urethanes, polyaspartics, solvent and water based sealers provide unique protective solutions to concrete, metal and steel surfaces. There are many coatings we use, each with their own unique characteristics and function.

In this project, we resurfaced the floors in the bathrooms of a 100 foot tugboat in Portland Harbor. For this project the process was to grind the surface, then apply a thick coating with decorative epoxy chips in tan color. This is not your ordinary marine paint.

Metal Fuel Tank Painting Portland Oregon Metro Area

Metal and Steel Painting Portland Oregon

Painting metal fuel and water tanks like the one featured here in the Polk and Yamhill Counties require a 5 step process. This project was completed over 2 weekends.

Metal Fuel Tank Painting Process

1. Degreaser – Structure required degreasing to remove dirt and grime from truck and tractor exhausts.
2. Rust Removal – metal and steel fuel and water tanks are susceptible to corrosion. Grinding and spot hand sanding removed rust and flaking.
3. Power Washing – Power washing from top to bottom of 35 foot tall fuel tank. Access was via hydraulic lifts. This critical step removes degreaser, rust and dust.
4. Primer – Sherwin Williams Kem Kronik Metal Primer was used as the first coat. This is a rust preventing alkyd resin coating. It produces a high build film which can be coated with epoxy and urethane finish coatings. It is frequently used on iron and steel fuel and water tanks, machinery, marine vessels, hand rails, structural steel. It dries to approximately 3 mil thickness depending on application process..
5. Finish Coat – We applied 2 coats Sherwin Williams Pro Industrial Urethane Alkyd Enamel as final protective paint. This is a high solids paint with glossy finish.

Case Study: Restoration at Domaine Drouhin Winery

The team here at Smith & Company Flooring is always honored to be called in for a job at a local Yamhill County winery because the wine industry is such a big part of the McMinnville area culture. We recently spent a week at Domaine Drouhin Winery in Dayton, OR, hired to return big wooden doors to their original glory.

The first step was to completely strip off the old clear coat from the wooden doors. It didn’t take the team long to notice the doors were in pretty poor condition. There were large dark water stains, which is common for wood in wineries. After quite a few rounds of sanding, the team applied several applications of wood bleach. This process took care of the water stains and made the doors look great.

After taking care of the damage on the wood, the doors were ready the team to apply the clear sealer. As always, we had to take the setting into consideration when picking the right product for our clients. The industrial wood clear coat we chose was a two-component material that will hold up in the wet environment. We ordered the Pro Line Prothane 4800 High Solids Polyurethane from Sherman Williams and applied three coats.

After taking care of the existing damage and applying a clear coat that is sure to last, the doors look as good as new.

Case Study: Installing Epoxy Floor Coating in Beaverton Commercial Manufacturing Facility

The owners of a five-story commercial manufacturing facility recently hired the Smith & Company Flooring team to apply epoxy floor coating in Beaverton. We were given two days to apply the coating to two floors of the 300,000 square foot building, so the team worked quickly.

The intent of the job was to apply epoxy as a protective coating on the floor. We needed to help prevent water from seeping through the floor to the room below. At first glance, the floors looked like they were in good condition. The Smith and Company team didn’t have to strip any previous materials or coatings off the floor as the building had just bare concrete.

The team started by priming the concrete floors with the General Polymers GP3579 primer. There were no difficulties during this step. However, after we applied the first coat of epoxy, team members noticed a lot of little small pin holes in the floor. To fix this, we filled those holes with an epoxy filler. The team then applied another coat of epoxy to the concrete floor. For the second epoxy floor coating, we used General Polymers GP3745 in “Steel Grey.

This job resulted in good-looking concrete that will protect each floor from potential water damage. The epoxy floor coating we used for this job was versatile enough to serve both aesthetic and functional purposes.

See the restorative change in the pictures below.
