The team here at Smith & Company Flooring is always honored to be called in for a job at a local Yamhill County winery because the wine industry is such a big part of the McMinnville area culture. We recently spent a week at Domaine Drouhin Winery in Dayton, OR, hired to return big wooden doors to their original glory.
The first step was to completely strip off the old clear coat from the wooden doors. It didn’t take the team long to notice the doors were in pretty poor condition. There were large dark water stains, which is common for wood in wineries. After quite a few rounds of sanding, the team applied several applications of wood bleach. This process took care of the water stains and made the doors look great.
After taking care of the damage on the wood, the doors were ready the team to apply the clear sealer. As always, we had to take the setting into consideration when picking the right product for our clients. The industrial wood clear coat we chose was a two-component material that will hold up in the wet environment. We ordered the Pro Line Prothane 4800 High Solids Polyurethane from Sherman Williams and applied three coats.
After taking care of the existing damage and applying a clear coat that is sure to last, the doors look as good as new.

Antimicrobial coatings achieve this by creating a non-porous surface which prevents contaminants from absorbing into the flooring. They also have a slow release agent that kills fungi, mildew, mold, algae, yeast, and many other bacteria. This feature makes them an excellent choice for food processing plants, restaurants, school cafeterias, pharmaceutical labs, hospitals, or anywhere cleanliness is top priority.
