What Can Affect an Epoxy Floor Coating Cost?

There are a lot of factors that can affect an epoxy floor coating cost, the main ones being the size of the floor and the material being used. There are a lot of other smaller factors, however, that can affect the cost of an epoxy coating, which people sometimes don’t realize. In this blog, we will look at these additional factors and how they affect coating costs.

Floor Condition

The condition of the floor is very important to consider when determining the cost of a coating project. If there is residual glue on the floor from the previous flooring, or if the concrete is really rough, it will require additional work to get it sanded down to a workable state. Cracks and joints also need to be taken into consideration because they will need to be filled before work can begin.

Precision Grinding

When a concrete floor is being prepared for an epoxy coating, the contractor uses a large grinder to even out the floor. In cases where are a drain, pillar, or wall is present, the contractor must instead use a precision grinder. This precision grinder requires more expertise and time which can increase the cost of the job.

Coating Purpose

The next factor of the determining the cost of an epoxy coating is what does the coating need to guard against? Answering this question will not only tell the installer which material to use but also how thick the coating needs to be. Thicker coatings give greater protection, but use more materials and take longer to install.

Slip-Resistant Coating

If the floor coating is going to be installed in an area with a high amount of foot traffic, it is recommended to also install a slip-resistant coating. These coatings reduce the risk of accidents, but they also require additional materials and time.

Power

The last factor clients often neglect to think about is the power situation in the building. It is common to have concrete floors coated near the beginning of a construction project, but that usually means there are inadequate power outlets. This means generators have to be brought to power the equipment needed to apply the epoxy coating.
